“Relax and enjoy our masonry” RW Bro Peter Baker’s message at the MGO & PGO Club on 6th November 2018

A fine gathering of Middlesex Brethren gave a warm welcome to the new President of the MGO PGO Club the RW Bro Peter Baker on his first time at the Club.

He set the tone for the evening by saying he wanted us all to “relax and enjoy our masonry” and also stated that the dress code for the event should be more relaxed – jacket and tie would be fine, but no beach wear !!

He mentioned the Provincial Service of Thanksgiving which had been held on Sunday 4th November at St Alban’s Cathedral saying it had been a poignant and moving service notably the last post that filled the Cathedral. Middlesex Freemasons he said would be also be represented on Remembrance Sunday the 11th November at 16 war memorials in the Province.

22nd January 2020 marks the 150th anniversary of the formation of the Province of Middlesex and would be a suitable end point to the Middlesex 2020 Festival Appeal with the possibility of a celebratory dinner in March 2020 to which member’s wives would be invited.

So far £3.5m had been raised but RW Peter Baker informed the members present that £1m was still sitting in Lodge and Chapter Relief Chests. He said that as this money had been raised for the benefit of charity as such, a simple proposition should be given in Lodge and Chapters to disburse these funds to meet this end.

The President then introduced the first in a series of “Beyond the Craft” presentations as there are 14 other orders to explore and enjoy within the Province of Middlesex.

The District Grand Master for Middlesex of Royal and Select Masters (‘The Cryptic Degrees’), R.Ill. Comp. Christopher Lewis then gave an informative and eloquent presentation on the Royal and Select Masters “The Cryptic Degrees”

and The Inspector General of the Ancient and Accepted Rite ‘Rose Croix’, District of Middlesex, V. Ill. Bro. Robert Bethel gave an equally enlightening explanation about the Ancient and Accepted Rite “Rose Croix”.
