Charity

Supporting Freemasons, Families, and Communities

Charity has always been a fundamental principle of Freemasonry. Individuals can make significant contributions at the local, national, and global levels by donating both their time and money.

Freemasonry is one of the largest charitable givers in the country, donating around £50 million to worthy causes every year. Freemasons do not only contribute financially – they also dedicate more than 18.5 million hours to volunteer work each year.

Charity is a primary reason why people join Freemasonry. The three Great Principles we uphold are Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth. Freemasons are taught to practice charity and to care not only for their own but also for the broader community. This is achieved through charitable donations and voluntary efforts by individuals.

From its earliest days, Freemasonry has focused on caring for orphans, the sick, and the elderly. This work continues today, with substantial sums being donated to national and local charities.

Masonic charity is practiced at every level: individual Lodges make donations and provide aid to their local communities. Middlesex Freemasonry also donates significant amounts to regional causes, and nationally, we have the Masonic Charitable Foundation.
