Turning sad rags into glad rags –
Down on your luck with the job and with the prospect of lockdown, what can a Middlesex Mason do ?
W Bro Matt Erratt PProvSGD, , a member of both Electron Lodge, No. 7527 and Prince Michael of Kent Lodge, No. 9120,decided to take matters into his own hands and acting on his own initiative has volunteered to work with a group calling themselves “Scrubs Glorious Scrubs”, which is essentially a group of volunteers working in the Middlesex and outlying areas.
Because of the crisis in the provision of Scrubs (protective medical clothing) to the NHS the group are looking for donations of suitable material (Cotton or Polyester Cotton), which the volunteer machinists, about 400 working from home, can fashion the material into Medical Scrubs.
Bro Matt’s role in this is by way of volunteer delivery driver using his own car taking the cut fabric to a “Hub” where the machinists collect the prepared fabric to make the finished article.
Once ready Bro Matt will collect and deliver to a location in Ascot, Berks, where it is checked and then bagged up for onward delivery to the designated hospitals.
The hospitals currently served are; Frimley Park Hospital, Wexham Park Hospital, St Peters Hospital, as well as some London Hospitals. The team are also supplying Hospices and Doctors Surgeries as well.
This is a brave venture by Matt and he is looking for support and assistance from Middlesex Brethren in supplying either money to purchase more material, or better still if there are any businesses within the Province which are willing to supply rolls of material, to continue the good work that is being done.
The John Lewis Partnership in particular have been generous in their support and supply of material.
Other material needed includes the following;
• ELASTIC (for trouser waistbands)
• SEWING THREAD,
• HALF INCH TAPE,
• HALF INCH/ 1 INCH RIBBON
This initiative is being supported by Masons in adjacent Provinces to Middlesex.
Matt has kindly offered his details so that interested Brethren may make contact;

When NHS procurement is coming under fire, it is good to know that the wider community which includes freemasons are able to pull together and work things out.
Matt’s sister is also involved with this work by way of running a hub of about 20-30 ladies in the Datchet and Windsor area.
The BBC have expressed an interests in the work done and there will shortly be a programme hosted by Ross Kemp highlighting the good work being done in supporting the NHS a critical time.
