Protocol for Death of a Royal Member of The Craft

His Royal Highness, The Prince Philip, Duke Of Edinburgh

Notwithstanding that Masonic activities are still under a period of suspension, as a mark of respect and in accordance with the protocol issued by the Board (and Committee) of General Purposes of UGLE & SGCE for use on the death of a Masonic Member of the Royal Family, the following protocols shall be observed: –

1. Where possible, the Union flag will be flown at half-mast from Masonic buildings until after the funeral, if a period national mourning is ordered, or otherwise for an appropriate short duration.

2. Whilst additions to regalia, for example the wearing of black rosettes, are not appropriate in modern times, it is my wish that only black ties, rather than Provincial ties, be worn in Middlesex Lodges and Chapters until Monday 31st May 2021 (or until such other time as may be advised).

3. The fact will be formally recorded in the paper of business for the Annual Meeting and Convocation of Provincial Grand Lodge and Provincial Grand Chapter to be held on Friday 3rd September 2021.
