CAMPAIGNS AND EVENTS UPDATE – Spring 2018
MANAGEMENT CHANGES – At the recent AGM of the Association, Malcolm Andrews stood down as Chairman after seven very successful years in the post. He has been replaced by Julien Sampson.
In addition, Kathy Loveridge relinquished her role as Membership Secretary. The role is now being carried out by Doug Brodie. Kathy remains a key member of our Events Committee.
Meanwhile our Events Committee, led by Simon Comben, has arranged a full programme of events for 2018 (see below).
OPEN DAY SUCCESS – At our ‘open day’ for lodges on 15th April a total of 15 lodges attended. They were all given a guided tour of the Home and met the Home manager, Beverley Roberts and representatives of the Association of Friends. All were very impressed with the quality and standard of PMKC and they all expressed an interest in becoming Supporting Lodges of the Association. Two actually joined on the day and paid their first year subscriptions.
Lodges and individuals are encouraged to support the Association of Friends by becoming members, donating towards therapy equipment, sponsoring an event or volunteering at our events.
NEW PROJECTS – Last year’s hugely successful creation of the 1950’s street-scene themed garden in the Jersey Wing has been getting rave reviews from everyone who sees it. The project has already had considerable benefits not only to the residents with Dementia, but to all the residents. Of course, it would not have been possible without the generous donations received from Lodges and individuals.
Following the success of this, the Home’s manager, Beverley Roberts, approached the Association regarding a project to make the garden of Forresters Wing into a safe and welcoming place for the residents. At present, the garden and its pathways are not suitable for the elderly and those with limited mobility. However, with new soft rubber outdoor flooring, the removal of tree stumps and exposed roots and a general makeover, we hope to create a much-needed additional safe outdoor recreational space for the residents.
In addition, the Home is working with the RMBI to build a new conservatory to create more indoor recreational space and the Association of Friends is working hard to raise funds toward this project. If you would like to make a donation to these worthy causes, please contact our Chairman, Julien Sampson by email at:email@example.com
