After several pandemic related delays, 11 members of the Middlesex Deputies Club and their partners went away for a long weekend to The Grand Hotel in Jersey at the end of September.
The Club President, Bob Rough, and his wife had meticulously planned every detail and the weekend kicked off with a champagne reception in glorious sunshine on the Terrace Bar, which set the tone for the weekend with copious amounts of alcohol consumed throughout !
Friday night dinner was at a choice of one of the many superb restaurants in St. Helier with the award for the best story of the night going to Brian Lown as to how he managed to persuade the Maître D to give four of us a lift back in his car as the taxi wait was over an hour.
A trip to the Jersey Masonic Centre was pre-arranged for Saturday afternoon and several of us were treated to a fascinating talk from the author of the book entitled “The Story of Jersey Freemasonry” on the history of the centre.
This was followed by a guided tour of the other temples and museum by the ProvGSE – this is a must see for anyone visiting the island in future.
Saturday night was a sumptuous black tie banquet at the hotel following which we retired to the bar for a night-cap or two…….(no pictures are publishable!!)
Sunday was a chance to do some sightseeing and we went to visit the Jersey War Tunnels for a fascinating insight to life on the island during WW2 – see www.jerseywartunnels.com, which was followed by a delightful lunch on the Terrace at the hotel before wending our weary way home to recover !
