After due consideration, the Members of the Lodge voted to donate the funds to the Michael Sobell Hospice Charity, as the Lodge had supported them in the past, in particular with a very successful charity film screening in 2009.
On contacting Events & Community Fundraising Manager, Ophelia Chambers-Henry, at the Michael Sobell Hospice to make arrangements to present the cheque, newly appointed Lodge Charity Steward, W Bro Nick Reay, was informed that the timing could not have been more poignant.
The charity had announced that week the re-opening of the inpatient unit after 16 months closure, having spent £385,000 to refurbish the whole unit creating more private space for patients and more bathrooms to bring the 44 year old building up to date.
There are currently 12 beds, with a total of 16 available in time. Going forward it will cost nearly £2 million to run annually.
OPEN DAY –
To mark the relaunch, the charity held an Open Day event on Saturday 14th December to enable supporters, friends and family to look around the newly refurbished facilities.
W Bro Nick Reay duly attended and had the pleasure of presenting the cheque to Michael Breen, Chair of Trustees, who is also a member of North Harrow Lodge, No. 6557.
Michael Breen said, “This gift will enable the Charity to provide support and care to local people with life limiting illnesses.
In addition to continuing to fundraise for the Hospice Day Unit, the Charity is delighted to confirm that, after months of uncertainty, plans are now well underway to re-open the Hospice Inpatient Unit, now that this essential refurbishment work has been completed.
The Charity can, once again, focus on raising funds for both areas of the Michael Sobell Hospice and certainly appreciates that this cannot be achieved without the continuous generosity of its loyal supporters.
On behalf of everyone at Michael Sobell Hospice Charity, please accept our sincere thanks“.
W Bro Nick said: “Members of The Round Table Lodge of Middlesex were delighted to have had the opportunity of continuing their support to this very important facility within the Province and it is a fitting tribute to W Bro Marcus Taylor, who was a much respected Founder and Honorary Member of the Lodge, who sadly passed to the Grand Lodge Above on 5th November 2018 and is much missed by all.”
