A Most Notable 3 at Barn Hill

Members of Barn Hill Lodge, No. 7799, together with Provincial Delegation

The April meeting of Barn Hill Lodge, No. 7799, which meets at Harrow was an extremely busy one, with a Most distinguished visitor.

Firstly, Bro. Dan Colley, who was Initiated in 2017 and has already taken office as Inner Guard, was to be Raised to the Third Degree.

His “father in law – elect”, Most Worshipful Brother Barry Weer, Past Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Illinois was eager to witness this event, and flew over especially. Notably he was saluted with eleven once the Lodge had opened.

The Lodge then received Assistant Provincial Grand Master, W.Bro. Paul Huggins, who arrived with Escort of fine men, to officially greet Bro Barry in the place of the Pro Provincial Grand Master, who would have attended except for an unfortunate clash with Provincial Grand Officers Club.

The Second notable item was a Lodge of Sorrow for recently departed W.Bro. Alan Fox, who had passed to the Grand Lodge Above on 2nd February 2019.

An extremely moving eulogy was delivered by his close friend W.Bro. Colin Piper. Bro. Colin noted that both were to be promoted to the rank of Past Provincial Junior Grand Warden, but Bro. Alan would receive his posthumously.

The meeting then progressed, and the Third Degree Ceremony delivered in Barn Hill style, split between five past masters.

An extremely personal touch was the addition of the “Charge to the Lodge” by Bro. Barry to his future son in law at the conclusion of the regular ceremony.

Bro John had been Initiated in to Barn Hill on 8th April 1969.

Paul gave an overview of great things which happened in 1969, before outlining John’s Masonic career in Middlesex and Bedfordshire.

Bro. John hadn’t been to the Lodge for some years, but now resolved to attend more regularly.

In summary it was a lively meeting, followed by a festive board where 37 dined.

The cherry on the cake was Bro. Dan Colley giving the toast to the visitors, and requesting a reply from M.W.Bro Barry Weer, who did so in most grand style.
