The fruits of W. Bro. Chris Pooley’s year as WM of Greenhill Lodge, No. 6981 were harvested by the Lynda Jackson MacMillan Centre (LJMC), when Christopher presented them with a cheque for £4,000.
The charity, which provides support and information, as well as a range of therapies for people affected by cancer, was especially close to Chris, as he was diagnosed with cancer of the tonsil and base of tongue in 2015 and, along with his wife Maxine, found the therapies and counselling a tremendous help both during and after treatment.
The bulk of the funds was raised at the Ladies Festival, held in April 2019 at Northwood Golf Club, Middlesex, at which many local businesses in Pinner contributed raffle prizes, including Friends restaurant and Fridolins Beauty Clinic.
The LJMC supports those affected by cancer and is based at the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre.
As it provides treatments that extend beyond the obligations of the NHS, it relies on fundraising and voluntary donations to continue its support free of charge.
Monies raised by Greenhill Lodge will provide well over 100 sessions of complementary therapy such as relaxation and breathing techniques, reiki, massage and acupuncture as well as art psychotherapy, which encourages the expression of feelings which are otherwise difficult to put into words.
With grateful thanks to W. Bro Ian Mitchell.
