The Grand Patrons of Roxeth

Members and guests of Roxeth Lodge 6905 following an Initiation and presenting a cheque to achieve Grand Patron of the 2020 Festival.

What better way to show a new candidate the wonderful precepts of freemasonry than by awakening his feelings to Charity, as we are taught in the first degree, and by his witnessing the magnanimity of the Lodge members in their charitable giving and the Lodge reaching the status of Grand Patron of The 2020 Festival.

This becomes even more poignant when considering the candidate was introduced to Freemasonry through the Provincial Discover Freemasonry initiative.

On the 18th January 2020 Laurence Cernescu, who originally came from Romania, was Initiated into freemasonry in Roxeth Lodge, No. 6905, which meet at Harrow District Masonic Centre. The ceremony was conducted by the Worshipful Master Darren Bending.

At that meeting a cheque was presented by the Worshipful Master’s son, W. Bro Adam Bending, the Lodge Charity Steward, to W. Bro Paul Huggins APGM PSGD for the amount of £1,700.00, plus an additional £450 donation from their Relief Chest, making a total donation of £2,050, which then qualified the Lodge for Grand Patron Status.

What a wonderful “baptism” for Bro Laurence to be present at such a significant event in the annals of the Lodge.

In more ways than one, it has been a good year for the Lodge with four new in initiates and a joining member.

Roxeth Lodge was formed in 1949 and its name refers to the area south of Harrow Hill.

Etymologically the name Roxeth originates in Rooks Heath and the Lodge Crest as shown on the Summons depicts two rooks, a mulberry tree, whose leaves were said to feed silk worms, hands representing friendship and a well representing the founding first Master of the Lodge Edward Atwell.

Hopefully the successes of Roxeth Lodge 6905 in the last year both in membership growth and in charity augur well for the next 70 odd years.

A grateful thanks to W. Bro Paul Huggins APGM PSGD for this contribution.
