Fortitude Lodge Gives Back to St Francis Hospice.

It was the wish of the Worshipful Master of Fortitude Lodge, No. 6503, W. Bro Mark Blackford that his chosen charity for his year in the Chair should be the St Francis Hospice in Berkhamsted, particularly as this particular hospice has had a connection with the Lodge having provided services to family members of Fortitude brethren over a number of years.

However, this gift is the first that the Lodge has donated.

St Francis Hospice needs £5 million per annum to operate and about 80% of its income is generated by charitable donations.

The sum of £600 presented to the hospice by W. Bro Michael Goldthorpe ProvGSuptWorks and W. Bro Alan Russell PPrJGW was the proceeds of a recent Lodge Ladies Festival and was handed to a member of the fundraising team at the end of June and will ensure that the hospice team are able to continue to offer relief and provide first class support to those it cares for.

Fortitude Lodge has achieved well earned status as Grand Patron in The 2020 Festival and is on target to reach Platinum Grand Patron in this current masonic year.

This kind of donation, apart from the Lodge Members’ generosity in supporting other local charities, shows what might be achieved even when a Lodge is relatively small in numbers.

The Hospice fundraising team have many facets to their approach to raising money and the illustration amply demonstrates the many avenues employed to achieve this.

May good fortune smile on Fortitude Lodge and assist them in this and other worthwhile endeavours in ensuring that Masonic monetary gifts are well received in the community.
