Some 21 years ago W. Bro Steve Grant became the father of a baby girl – the name chosen for her was Isabel.
At that time he couldn’t have foreseen that one day he would become a Freemason, and therefore wouldn’t have been able to prophesy that he would sit in the Chair of King Solomon as Worshipful Master of a Lodge of Freemasons, namely Horsa-Dun Lodge, No. 3123, who meet at Harrow Masonic Centre.
Neither could he have foreseen the manner of death for his father, and his Mother–in–law.
All these things were far in the future and hidden from his eyes.
But fast forward to October 2017, when Steve did, indeed, ascend that Masonic throne, and declared his chosen charity for the year – the Isabel Hospice situated in Welwyn Garden City.
How prescient that decision, taken so many years before, to name his daughter so.
For both Steve’s Dad and his Mother-in-law were fortunate enough to be able to spend their final days in the inspirational care of that Hospice.
Steve was in awe of the compassion and nursing excellence shown to both of them; easing their pain and apprehension in their final days of life.
He determined that once he became WM he would endeavour to raise as much as he could to donate to them as a token of his gratitude.
Thanks to the generosity and support of his Brethren he managed to raise the magnificent sum of £2,263 by the time he handed over to his successor in October 2018.
