The bumper turnout of guests was no doubt due in part to the celebratory Platinum Jubilee Festive Board, at which two pipers, Brother Iain Raymond, Pipe Major of Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders (Princess Louise’s Regiment) (retired) and Brother John Shipton, Trooper in Queens Household Calvary (retired) both wearing Balmoral tartan piper uniform, played in the Worshipful Master with ‘The Crags of Tumbledown Mountain‘, known to be a favourite of the Queen.
The pipers also treated the Brethren to a number of melodies played for Her Majesty drawing on Bro Raymond’s knowledge gained while he was official piper at the Balmoral Estate and Castle.
The meeting itself went smoothly, with the Passing Ceremony conducted by W Bro Colin Grant and Bro Matt’s responses being delivered very well, doubtless due to his regular attendance at LOI since his Initiation in July 2021.
At the meeting the Lodge also appointed a new tyler, the ubiquitous W Bro John Mellor taking over from W Bro Brian Kemp who has decided to slow things down.
In recognition of his service, the Lodge presented him with a certificate and a cut glass plaque.
The Lodge also elected Bro Thomas Jackson to be the next Master who will be installed in October.
The formal business of the evening having concluded the Brethren enjoyed the celebratory Festive Board, with a special menu consisting of the Queen’s favourite dishes served on placemats detailing the history of her reign. It was truly an evening to remember for Brethren and guests alike.
