Jubilee Lodge No 8822 – A Most Memorable Meeting

On 9th July 2014 Jubilee Lodge held a very special meeting at HDMC.

The Worshipful Master Sam Nahum welcomed RW Bro Alastair Mason ProProvGM accompanied by W Bro Barry Cramer PAGDC AProvGM, W Bro Nigel Codron PAGDC ProvGDC and W Bro Graham Fielding PAGSwdB Provincial Grand Tyler, supported by the full Provincial retinue.

WM Sam Nahum offered the gavel to the ProProvGM, who wisely decided to allow the Jubilee team to continue the meeting.

W Bro Sam invited W Bro Jack Portnoi to occupy the chair, who proceeded to initiate his grandson Adam Manton into the secrets and mysteries of Ancient Freemasonry.

He did this exuding great pride and joy and delivering the ritual in a most excellent manner considering he is 88 years young.

History repeated itself as W Bro Jack had the pleasure a few years ago of initiating into Jubilee Lodge Adam’s brother Richard, who is currently the Senior Deacon.

Richard faultlessly delivered the Charge after Initiation to his brother.

Bro Richard Bunt acted as Junior Deacon, who confidently handled the initiate and also gave an excellent delivery of the Working Tools.

RW Bro Alastair Mason ProProvGM welcomed Bro Adam into the Province and gave him a booklet called The Freemasons Companion, which he said was less likely to cause insomnia than the Book of Constitutions presented by the WM.

Following the ceremony, R W Bro Alastair Mason was invited to present Long Service Certificates commemorating 50 years in the craft to four of the Lodge members. W Bro Michael Beck, W Bro Laurie Leapman, W Bro Jack Portnoi & W Bro Alan Orchover.

Before the presentation was made, W Bro Jo Gollow gave a potted history about Laurie, W Bro Vic Reuben about Jack and W Bro Peter Elliston about Alan. Unfortunately, W Bro Michael Beck was unable to be with us on this occasion as he lives in the USA.

R W Bro Alastair gave a resume of their respective Masonic careers and presented them each with 50 years certificates. He described each of the celebrants as Brothers who epitomised the values of Freemasonry.

R W Bro Alastair gave W Bro Laurie a 50 year lapel pin commenting that he was a founding member of Jubilee Chapter had never received Provincial Chapter honours.

To the delight of those present WR W Bro Alastair appointed E Comp Laurie with an in-field appointment to the rank of PPGSN. In similar fashion, R W Bro Alastair promoted W Bro Jack and Alan to PPJGW

The Lodge was closed in solemn prayer with everyone having happy memories of a most excellent meeting.

A comment made during the Festive Board was that they were deeply privileged to be at such a prestigious afternoon.
