W. Bro. / E. Comp. John Culling, PAGDC, PAGDC (RA), 2nd Provincial Grand Principal

E. Comp. John Culling, PAGDC
15 May 1949 – 11 March 2019

It is my very sad duty to report that John Culling passed away at home at about mid-day yesterday surrounded by his family, shortly after having been diagnosed with severe and inoperable pancreatic and liver cancer. I am sure that you will wish to join me in sending his wife, Shirley, sons, Lee and James, and all of his family our sincere and heartfelt condolences on their loss and assure them that they are in our thoughts and prayers at this very sad and difficult time.

With his tall stature, John was literally a larger than life character with very busy personal, professional and Masonic careers. He was variously a Metropolitan Police Officer, Sales Manager, Business Advisor, as well as a Civil Funeral Celebrant, Toastmaster and a former Captain and current Chairman of Pinner Hill Golf Club, and one of Her Majesty’s Justices of the Peace on the North West London Bench.

In Freemasonry, he was initiated in Londesborough Lodge No. 1681 (London) in 1979 and exalted in Burdett Chapter No. 1293 (Middlesex) in 1983. He was a subscribing or honorary member of seven other Middlesex Lodges and six Chapters in London and Middlesex, including being a Founder of two Middlesex Chapters. He was passionate about the Holy Royal Arch and was at various times a Visiting Officer/Senior Visiting Officer, Assistant to the Provincial Grand Principals and was finally appointed as 2nd Provincial Grand Principal in 2014, which office he still held at the time of his death. In Grand Lodge he was appointed and invested as a Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies in 2008 and in Grand Chapter he was likewise appointed and invested as a Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies in 2013.

It can truly be said that he lived respected and died regretted and I am certain that he will be sorely missed by all of his family and friends. May light perpetual shine upon him and may he rest in peace.
