Many Middlesex Masons will be aware of the charitable works of W. Bro Jack (Jacko) Flint PAGSuptWks and his wife Lee. These works benefit those people who live in the community of Watamu in Kenya where Jack also has a home and are reported on in Middlesex Media. Much of the work has been providing for several children’s charities and clinics in Watamu including a local girl’s school. Jack works tirelessly when in the UK to raise funds for these extremely important community projects far from home including a Golf Day each year held at the Chobham Golf Club.
However, at a recent Golf Day W. Bro Martin Mellamphy PProvJGD, a member of Brent Valley Lodge No 3940, The Middlesex Masters Lodge No 3420 and Prince Michael of Kent Lodge No 9120 mentioned to Jack that as he worked for a major company which manufactured reading glasses of varying strengths, he often had glasses which had been returned for recycling or were very slightly damaged but which might find a new home for those who would benefit from them. Jacko snapped up the offer and before anyone knew it, they were winging their way to Watamu. Once they arrive in Kenya they are given to a local Optician in Watamu who can then allocate them as needed to those in need. The Golf Day is a Middlesex Mark Degree initiative and involves the Provincial Grand Master of the Mark Degree in Middlesex, RW Bro Ed Garty and other Craft Masons who are also members of the Mark Degree with a little twist. The organising Lodge is the George Parker Lodge of Mark Master Masons No 1316. They meet for Installation once a year and the other two meetings involve a Golf Day in other of the Home Counties.
The provision of glasses is an amazing gesture and the thank you email is testament to a job well done.
“Good evening, Jack and Lee,
please find attached herewith my e-mail. 2 ladies from Kilifi who heard about the programme and came yesterday were fitted successfully with glasses and went back home happily. I told them all about how we started this small eye sight support, which many cannot afford because of the cost. They really appreciated it and send their blessings to all of you. Thank you all.
With best regards
