Positive and Proactive Action in Middlesex

Jim Mitchell & Gemma Brown at West Middlesex Hospital

The charitable initiatives of the Freemasons of Middlesex know no bounds and once again

The Pro Provincial Grand Master, RW Bro Peter Baker, the Executive Teams and members of Lodges and Chapters in the Province continue to provide support to local NHS Charitable Trusts during the current COVID-19 crisis.

In this instance, working together with United Grand Lodge of England and the Masonic Charitable Foundation, the Province has been able to donate 15 Samsung TAB A Tablets to the West Middlesex University Hospital at Isleworth, who received 8 and the Hillingdon Hospital, who received 7.

These were handed over by W Bro Jim Mitchell, the Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies, to Gemma Brown at West Middlesex University Hospital and Lynsey Waddell at Hillingdon Hospital.

The Tablets, wrapped in their protective cases, will be used by the volunteer ward helpers who are now slowly returning to work and will assist patients in the hospital clean zones (non-Covid).

Essentially these volunteers are befrienders, who will help patients contact their families via the Tablets using various social media platforms, including WhatsApp, Skype and FaceTime, as hospital visits by family members and friends are currently still not allowed.

The volunteers will be wearing full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and be able to sit with the patients and assist them in making the calls.

Once each call is concluded the Tablets will be hygienically cleaned and then used again within the wards by other patients.

This is an amazingly generous gift and one that is bound to be cherished by the individual hospital patients.

Altogether 1200 Tablets have been distributed by Freemasons throughout London and all 47 Provinces in England and Wales.
