On Saturday 14th September 2019, we will be holding a sponsored canoe trip along the Grand union Canal. (Approx 12 miles).
The event is to raise money for the 2020 Festival and all monies raised will be set against your Lodge or Chapter honorific total.
Lodges and Chapters are invited to register their interest to enter teams of two, three or four paddlers. The event can be completed in full by one team or split up into a number of sections. Non masons are welcome as part of a team. Are there any 3 generation teams out there?
Paddlers will be expected to pay a £20 registration fee (per paddler) which will all go to the Bury Lake Young Mariners to help them provide services and training to the disadvantaged youth in the area. This fee will also cover the cost of the hire of our canoes and 2 x 1hr training sessions which are compulsory for each paddler. Although compulsory, these should be fun sessions and small groups will be able to train on a number of dates throughout the summer. (More details to follow once you have registered)
We will set off early on the Saturday morning and spend several hours (or maybe a little longer) paddling through the country side towards our final destination at Rickmansworth Aquadrome where the new Bury Lake Young Mariners HQ will be holding a finish Line BBQ and presentation afternoon.
There will be only 30 or so Canadian canoes available (we are looking for others) so numbers will be limited.
We are not only looking for paddlers.
As we will be passing through a number of locks along the way, we will also need marshals to help the paddlers through the locks. Could your Lodge or Chapter help out and man one of the Locks?
We are hoping this will be a great way to get together and have some fun in the sun, whilst raising some money for our Festival and maybe get fitter in the process.
To register as a paddler or as a marshal, please send an email to Paul Sully (firstname.lastname@example.org) with your contact details and we will get back to you.
Thank you for getting involved
