An Unexpected Field Promotion

Round Table Lodge of Middlesex No 8301 Round Table Lodge of Middlesex No 8301

At the Round Table of Middlesex Lodge No 8301 meeting on Wednesday 10th May, the Worshipful Master, W Bro Geoff Hawkins, now in is 98th year, undertook yet another exemplary Passing of two Brothers from Barn Hill Lodge No 7799 under Rule 173 Conferment of Degrees by request. This also included the extended version of the Second-Degree Working Tools.

After a faultless Ceremony it was not surprising that the members of the Lodge overwhelming voted in favour of W Bro Geoff continuing for a second term as Master of the Lodge, which he expressed his thanks and gratitude for.

Looking forward to refreshment at the bar ahead of the Festive Board, W Bro Geoff had started the Risings in the usual way, when R W Bro Peter Baker stood to congratulate Geoff on his performance and to provide the Brethren with a brief CV of Geoff’s achievements since he was first Initiated into Freemasonry in Lodge of Felicity No 7509 on 17th January 1966. Geoff first took the Chair of King Solomon in that Lodge in June 1988, returning as Master in 2001. He subsequently joined Philip Bull and Motor Enthusiasts Lodge No 7731 in April 2002, becoming Master in February 2012. Being a Past Round Tabler, Geoff naturally wanted to Join the Round Table Lodge, which he did in January 2005.

Geoff was Exalted into Dalhousie Chapter No 865 in February 1971 and was First Principal in 1991, 2005 and 2018.

Geoff received his first Appointment as PPrAGDC in 1995, followed by an active Promotion to ProvJGD in 2002 and a further Promotion to PPrJGW in 2014

For R W Bro Peter Baker, following his announcement of his retirement in July, this would be his last meeting at the Round Table Lodge as Pro Provincial Grand Master and he was therefore delighted to be able to recognise Geoff’s service and dedication to the Lodge and Freemasonry in general, by Promoting him with immediate effect to PPrSGW.

IMPROPERLY DRESSED

The ProProvGM then pointed out to Geoff that he was improperly dressed. W. Bro Geoff thanked R W Bro Peter for the unexpected honour, which he was delighted and very proud to receive and thanked the Brethren again for their support.

The Meeting was honoured by the presence of Past Provincial Grand Master R W David Cons, as well as the most recent recipient of the Provincial Grand Master’s Award of Merit, W Bro David North, who kindly took the photographs, together with W Bro David Blithing PProvGPurs representing the Provincial Grand Master on an Official Visit as the Lodge VO.

Earlier in the meeting the Members Approved a donation of £500 to the Association of Friends of Prince Michael of Kent Court to sponsor a special Christmas lunch to be held at Halsey Hall in Watford, which will include entertainment.

The Brethren then retired for a most enjoyable Festive Board and looked forward to the Installation Meeting in November to see Geoff continue his duties as Worshipful Master in what will be his 99th year.
